Chong Pang Huat has been in Singapore's food scene for years and has even become a household name.

While their name says Chong Pang, they have multiple outlets scattered all over Singapore, including this one at the bustling Newton Food Centre.

The menu has three different types of meat for you to choose from — chicken, pork and mutton — and you get charged per stick, with a minimum order of 10 sticks. As it is Chinese-style satay, there is no beef, but the up side is that they have pork instead.

Apart from satay, the stall also sells ketupat (rice cakes).

Don't be deceived like me if you don't see a queue as most of the times, customers place an order and come back later to collect their food. During peak dining times, you may even need to wait up to 45 minutes for your satay! That was what I had to do but I feel like it was worth it.

I got some chicken, pork and mutton sticks so I could try all the stall's offerings. All the meats were grilled well and even had a nice caramelised char on them.

I also like how the satay comes with a side of cucumber and onions to eat in between satay so the meat won't feel as cloying.

Do get the ketupat for your carbs, it goes really well with the satay and even better with the nutty peanut sauce!

I also enjoyed the chicken wings which were very juicy. I don't usually like skin on chicken but this was was crispy and nicely caramelised!
