Located at Teck Ghee Market and Food Centre, this carrot cake stall has prides itself as using their homemade carrot cake, and perhaps that’s why it’s priced at a higher price compared to other stalls that you may have come across.

Teck Ghee Market (Ang Mo Kio) usually caters to the morning breakfast crowd, and so by lunch time, there aren’t many stalls opened, but this carrot cake stall is there for to cater to the lunch crowd as well.

You can tell that their carrot cake is homemade because it is chopped in different sizes, and the stall owners are rather friendly. You can tell that there are regular customers because of the chats and laughter when they met.

As the name suggests, it is fried in vegetable oil, so that’s a healthier choice for those looking for a more balanced diet for this long-time favourite hawker dish.

Carrot cake has always been one of my favourite local hawker dishes and what’s special about this dish is that it can be a great breakfast, lunch and even supper dish. It is filling, but too much as compared to rice or noodles – or at least for the first few hours before the carbohydrates kicks in.

The carrot cake is usually made with grated carrots, eggs, flour and sprinkled with spring onions when served. It’s chewy, soft, warm and a nice blend of sweet and savory/salty. The cai poh (pickled radish) gives an additional soft-crunch texture, along with the eggs that makes it so fragrant and fresh. The richness of the ingredients and tastes, as well as the lightness of the dish is why carrot cake is one that people go back for more. Again, with the chilli given, it adds an additional kick to it.

While it is relatively more expensive, it’s a good consideration for a shorter queuing time and a good plate of delicious carrot cake to satisfy your cravings.
