Lau Phua Chay Authentic Roasted Delicacies has been in the hawker scene for decades.
Their speciality lies in Teochew-style roast meats. So, what's the difference between this and your regular roast meats?
For one, Teochew-style roast meats are much sweeter than what people are used to and the special marinade is made with bean paste and malt.
And their roast meats definitely are popular with the masses because the front of the star is plastered with accolades and newspaper clippings. In fact, they were even featured in several Chinese television programmes!
I've eaten here a number of times as I live nearby and each time, I'm always fascinated by how dark their sauce is.
Upon first sight, it may seem a little off-putting as it's very dark, almost black. It's especially weird after it covers the roast meats.
However, I personally feel that this is the star of the show as it gives the protein this very nice, subtle sweetness.
The meats are on the leaner side but you can request for fattier cuts.
My only gripe was the rice was a little stale but it's nothing that the sauce can't fix.
