If you’re in the Redhill area and want to satisfy your cravings for Japanese food, look no further and check out The Bowl Story in ABC Brickworks. The stall opened just last year in August and is run by a couple, where the wife used to be a SIA stewardess and the husband used to be a car sales consultant. However, the person who actually came up with the recipes is their nephew who graduated with a diploma in culinary and catering management and also interned at two Michelin-starred restaurant Zen in 2019. They have also received plenty of help from their family, especially their nephews, who help out with the store when they can. Prices here are also kept extremely wallet-friendly and there are options like Chicken Katsu Don, Pork Katsu Curry Rice and Ebi Fry Curry Rice.

There isn’t a permanent long queue here at The Bowl Story, but the stall has a steady stream of customers so the owners are always kept busy. I got myself a bowl of their Chicken Katsu Don for just $5 and it was generously portioned with crisp fried chicken katsu strips, an onsen egg and Japanese pickles atop a bed of wam rice. It also came paired with a piping hot bowl of miso soup. The food was comforting and warmed my belly like a hug and for $5, you really get plenty of bang for your buck despite it being such a simple dish. Have heard good things about their curry options too so I can’t wait to come back and try those!
