Wow Wow West is currently owned by second-generation owners Elizabeth Huang and Jayden Cheong who are a happily married couple.
Prior to this, the stall was owned by Elizabeth’s parents and used to be located at Raffles Institution over 20 years ago. While the rental was cheap, it was still, after all, a school, and the school holidays were disruptive to the business. Therefore, they eventually moved to Henderson Market at Jalan Bukit Merah. Elizabeth herself had helped out at the stall since she was just 12 years old, but at the age of 17, she ran away from home.
During this period, her father, Eric Huang, turned to religion to tide him through the hard times and he promised god that if his daughter were to return home, he would serve God with a halfway house ( a community-based residential facility for offenders who have been allowed to serve part of their sentence under supervision in the community). So when Elizabeth returned home a few years later, he kept to his word and took in ex-offenders to work in his kitchen at Wow Wow West.
Eventually, Eric gifted his Henderson Market stall to an ex-drug addict who had shown great improvement and Elizabeth went on to open a second store at ABC Brickworks Food Centre as she has always wanted to run her own business, where she eventually met Jayden who visited the stall as a customer. The Henderson Market stall ran into some problems because the owner went back to his old ways but the ABC Brickworks stall is still running smoothly.

Wow Wow West is one of my favourite hawker western stalls in Singapore, mostly due to its massive portions. It’s always crowded here and I’ve never not had to queue — I usually wait around 10 minutes to 20 minutes for my food! Thankfully, Wow Wow West provides a buzzer so that you don’t have to wait directly outside the store for your food. One of my favourite dishes here is their chicken chop ($7) which never fails to be huge and super tender, making it good for folks with large appetites. Each plate of chicken chop also comes with a side of coleslaw, baked beans and crisp fries. I also usually top up to add on one of their massive, juicy sausages which are a must-try! They have both chicken cheese sausage ($2) and pork cheese sausage ($3) and if you enjoy sausages, you can also get the sausage sets.
