The humble stall at Chong Pang was set up by Joey Yong. Joey used to work at Shangri-la Hotel Singapore and got his stall's recipe several decades ago from an ex-Hainanese colleague from the hotel scene.
Back in 2015, he could sell up to 90 chickens a day but still sold his food at an affordable price so that the elderly in the neighbourhood can enjoy it too.
In 2023, his stall attained the highly-coveted Michelin Big Gourmand status.
Chicken rice here is truly kept affordable and a basic plate starts at $3.50, while a chicken drumstick rice is $4.80. They have both roast and steam options so pick what you want based on your preference!

I visited the stall late afternoon on a weekend before they attained their Michelin Bib Gourmand status and there was no queue.
I ordered the steamed chicken rice set as I feel that steamed chicken usually turns out more tender. And boy, was the chicken here really very tender! The layer of skin on each piece also added a nice fatty, juicy touch to the meat. Don't forget to dip your chicken (and rice!) in the provided condiments.
While it is a simple yet wholesome plate of chicken, I can see why it won the accolades and was featured in the papers.
