While Maki-san gives off Japanese vibes, did you know that the brand is actually from Singapore?

It was founded in 2012 by Omar Marks and Raj Mulani. Omar Marks was born in India and before founding Maki-San, he worked in the advertising industry where he was a copywriter. He managed Maki-San as the Chief Executive Officer from 2012 until 2018. In 2020, Omar and Raj left Maki-San due to diverging views with the partners about the brand's future. As of June 2020, the brand is managed by Alvin Wong.

The brand's business concept was inspired by DIY sushi restaurants in USA.

Their customisable sushi is their biggest selling point and these are served in colourful printed boxes. Over the years, they expanded to have DIY salad bowls as well.

Maki-San is halal-certified.

I love Maki-San and it is my go-to food when I'm hankering for something healthy and fuss-free.

I often get their DIY salad bowls and my go-to order is soba with smoked salmon.

This time around, I noticed that you could fry the maki and I was intrigued, so I ordered one too.

While the fried maki was delicious, it got a bit cloying after some time. I suggest sharing this with a friend!

The DIY salad, as usual, was delicious and filling. I love how I can customise the bowl so I get something new each time.
