Those who frequent Tiong Bahru Food Centre would be familiar with Hot Plate Western Food, a stall that has been here for over a decade.

Upon first sight, it may seem like they just sell your usual Western fare. But this is spiced up a usual with the addition of the hotplate. It also is cooked Taiwanese-style!

The hotplate is not only used for aesthetic purposes, but to keep the food piping hot and warm.

Menu items include classics like lamb chop, black pepper beef steak, and pork chop. These all come on the hot plate.

There are also other menu items that do not come served on a hot plate, such as the chicken wings and spring chicken.

I visited them on a weekday afternoon a little after peak hour and there was still a wait time for their food. I ordered the mixed grill and this took about 10 minutes to be ready.

Be careful, the hot plates are really hot! I had to carefully bring these back to my table.

The mixed grill comes with sausage, beef and chicken steak that is doused in a rich gravy. There is also a side of fries, coleslaw and baked beans.

The proteins are very tender and I could easily slice through them with a knife. Sausage was the usual ones you'd find at most old school western stalls. I really like their french fries! These were well-salted with a crisp crunch.
