Located at Redhill Food Centre, this is a staple meal for many locals and Singaporeans who are looking for a savoury food, or a familiar taste to satisfy the hunger.
The minced meat noodle, or locally also known as bak chor mee, is a dish that balances savory and earthy flavours, and gives that little salty and spicy taste with every bite.
There are many stalls at Redhill market, so it is quite hard to stand out. But with the meal crowd and people flocking to queue at various stalls, it is easy to spot which stalls are the popular ones. This is one of them...
Be prepared to wait a while to get your food, but it's also because each bowl is made to order. The hawker centre is huge, but getting a table may not be that easy. The hawker center is known for its wide variety of affordable, high-quality local food stalls. It’s a great spot for those looking for a satisfying and affordable meal in a casual, unpretentious setting.
It's not my first time eating a bowl of minced meat noodles, and it's safe to say my standards are pretty high with this dish.
Overall, I would say this isn't the best of what I've tasted in my life, but it does rank pretty high for the taste. My usual go-to order is a dry bowl of noodles, with chilli and a tinge of vinegar to get the tastebuds working.
The noodles is well-seasoned, offering a rich umami profile with each bite, while the addition of mushrooms brings a deep, earthy taste that complements the meat perfectly.
The noodles have a great texture—soft yet slightly firm, which helps them hold up well to the sauce without getting mushy. Presentation-wise, the dish may not win any awards for being particularly glamorous, but it’s functional and serves it purpose - a warm and comforting meal perfect for lunch or dinner.
