Let's share! |
Located in the heart of the historic Tiong Bahru neighbourhood, this stall has been around for decades, gaining a loyal following among locals and food enthusiasts alike.
Occupying two stall areas with just selling dim sum, you can be assured of its quality and taste - one of the main reasons why people keep coming back for more. There’s usually a small queue during peak hours, but it moves fairly quickly as the staff is efficient.
It's a whole lot of variety of dim sum and paus to choose from - from the classic char siew bao, to siew mai, lor mai gai and lotus paste pau. While the menu plastered on the wall is in Chinese, ask from the stall owners an English menu.
Don't be too shocked if the stall owners start shouting because they need to get the attention of its customers and they aren't exactly here for a chat.
It's not cheap, but a good variety of food from this stall is what would make your trip more eventful, and of course, trying the different little gems!
There are too many to choose from, so get the Char Siew Pau (BBQ Pork Bun). This is the staple of the menu, and Tiong Bahru Pau’s version is a crowd favourite. The bun is perfectly soft and fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness from the filling. The char siew (BBQ pork) inside is tender and savoury, with a slight caramelised edge. The balance between the sweetness of the filling and the soft, slightly chewy bun is just right. I just love the soft chewy and warm dough.
Har Gao (Shrimp Dumplings): These translucent, slightly chewy dumplings are filled with plump, juicy shrimp. They have just the right balance of seasoning and a subtle sweetness from the shrimp. The skin is delicate and smooth, which is tricky to get right, but Tiong Bahru Pau does it beautifully.
I'll definitely be back to try more and hopefully bring a bunch of people over to savour it together.
