The owner, Mr Ng Guan Chye, has been running the stall since the 1980s. That’s nearly 40 years of cooking the flat rice sheets (the kway) and the various braised sides such as pig intestines, pork belly, tau kwa, tau pok, fishcakes, braised hard-boiled eggs, etc.
Mr Ng wakes up early to prepare the braised dishes - especially the intestines - to make sure they are clean and odourless. If you manage to catch them during their off-peak hours, Mr. Ng is always up for an honest feedback.
Their menu is simple - Kway Chap (1-person or 2-person set) and Braised Pig’s Trotter. Their kway is so popular that each person is limited to just 2 bowls of kway and most people do just that.
I queued up for about 20 minutes, with approximately 8 people in front of me. It wasn’t that bad considering it was on a Saturday evening. I’ll recommend going straight for the ‘One Person Large Set' ($5.50) because it is definitely more worth it considering the ingredients in it.
I thought the kway was okay - smooth and chewy as expected, but the soy sauce broth was flavourful yet not too strong on the herbal taste. I love almost all kinds of braised dishes - especially pig intestines and pig skin. Guan Kee’s intestines were clean, chewy and well-braised, I will order an extra portion the next time round.
