Singaporeans love Taiwanese food but not all of us have the luxury of money and time to fly there to enjoy it.

Well, fret not as you can now can get your Taiwanese food fix in Chinatown from a stall called Really Something.

It's run by Mr Li, a Taiwan native who grew up in Chiayi, which is located in the southern region of Taiwan.

He's worked in Singapore for close to a decade and previously was at several restaurants before he opened his own hawker stall in 2020.

His menu is simple yet substantial and has classics like lu rou fan (braised pork rice), pork chop fried rice and Taiwanese fried chicken.

He also has Chiayi Chicken Rice, a Taiwanese dish that isn't as commonly found in Singapore.

It's rare to see Taiwanese food being sold in a hawker setting, so, discovering Really Something was a real treat.

When I came around 2pm on a weekend afternoon, the stall was quiet and there was only one other customer before me.

The stall has a simple but substantial menu with Taiwanese classics. I really wanted to try their rendition of lu rou fan (braised pork rice) but it was unfortunately sold out for the day. So, I got the egg fried rice with pork chop.

Most Singaporeans, including myself, refer to din tai fung as the gold standard for pork chop egg fried rice. While it wasn't similar, the egg fried rice here is of good quality and had been fried well. The pork chop was marinated well too but some parts were a little overcooked.

I also tried the Taiwanese fried chicken and this was scrumptious! Here, thick slices of chicken are fried in a luscious batter, producing a golden brown, crisp outer layer. The protein itself somehow retained its moisture and was very tender!
