The couple who own this stall, Mohammed Noorman and Puti Andam, first crossed paths when they worked as cabin crew in the same airline.
Puti is from Padang, Indonesia, while Noorman is a Singaporean who hasd grown up working at his family’s two-generation-owned hawker stall. The pair bonded over their common love for food and eventually, they got married.
During their honeymoon at Lombok, Indonesia, they had a taste of ayam taliwang, which is a popular local grilled chicken dish. They found it so life-changing that they decided to bring it to Singapore so that the locals can try it.
After plenty of experimenting for 6 months, they finally came up with the perfect recipes and were confident in setting up their own hawker stall. They take huge pride in their taliwang marinade, which is homemade.
I was curious to see how their Nasi Lemak Ayam Cabe Ijo would fare so I ordered that. It is my first time trying such a dish so I was fascinated to see that the large grilled chicken was coated in a green paste. I later on learnt that this green concoction is green chilli blend.
While it does look and sound a little intimidating, especially to those with low spice tolerances, I was surprised to find that chilli was bearable, even with my weak tolerance for spice. The chilli also complemented the succulent chicken excellently and I found myself scraping the plate clean. The dish also comes paired with a dollop of sambal, ikan bilis, peanuts and a fried egg.
For the price point, it’s truly worth it and writing this is making me crave the dish all over again!
