Prawnaholic is helmed by chef-owner Alan Choong, 28, who previously used to work at different hotels and restaurants before deciding to become a hawker. Fun fact — back when he was working at swanky restaurants, he would actually pop by hawker centres to get inspiration for his creations and one of his favourite dishes was prawn noodles. Hence, it just made sense for him to open a stall specialising in it. His small but substantial menu includes a variety of interesting prawn noodle-based dishes such as king prawn udon and special prawn noodles.
I’ve been wanting to try the food at Prawnholic for months, so I was thrilled when I finally managed to do so. I live in the West, so traveling down to the East for a bowl of prawn noodles did seem a little silly at first, but boy, was it worth it!
I ordered myself a bowl of King Prawn Noodles and I do admit, the $13 price tag may be a little off-putting at first, but trust me when I say it’s good money spent. The bowl was filled with your choice of noodles — I chose a mix of yellow noodles and thick beehoon — that is tossed in a thick, savoury gravy and topped with an assortment of ingredients like kurobuta pork, fresh large prawn and meatballs. The pork had an excellent fat to meat ratio so when you bite into it, everything just melts away in your mouth. I also really loved the prawns which were thick, crunchy and juicy — all prawn noodles should aspire to have prawns like that! The soup was also provided in a bowl at the side and this was rich and packed with umami, just like how a solid bowl of prawn broth should be.
