The stall is run by Wang Jing Jun, who used to work at Shangri-la's Shang Palace for three years before going over to Din Tai Fung, where he worked for a year. Prior to these big names, he also worked at other restaurants and hotels.
Finally, in May 2021, he decided to make a name out of himself by opening Chef Wang Fried Rice at Beo Crescent Market & Food Centre.
He only sells fried rice at this stall and there are options like pork chop, shrimp and abalone. If you aren't feeling any meat, there is also the choice to just get fried rice on its own. Diners can also top up 50 cents to change your rice to sambal fried rice.
Din Tai Fung fried rice is one of those dishes that I only treat myself to when I'm feeling rich. So to find that a chef with that background is selling similar fried rice at a fraction of the price, I was sold!
I visited the stall on a weekday afternoon and the hawker centre was packed with hungry diners because of lunch. Thankfully, I was able to find a seat and the stall did not have a long queue.
I got my food in under 10 minutes and enjoyed it while it was piping hot. The fried rice was so good and I must say, it really tastes similar to what you can get at Din Tai Fung or a fancy Chinese restaurant. My version came with abalones and these were so plump and good! For the price point, it was very worth it. I also highly recommend that people try the sambal. It is nutty, spicy and very good.
