Tucked away at Pek Kio Market & Food Centre is Sheng Seng Fried Prawn Noodle, which specializes in its name says, fried Hokkien prawn noodles.
The stall is also listed in the Singapore Michelin Plate guide, which means that Michelin inspectors have discovered quality food.
The second-generation family business is run by a husband-and-wife duo. Their son also helps out when he is free.
Previously, before moving to its current location, the store was at another coffee shop before it was torn down.
While prices here have increased due to inflation, prices are still affordable, with the cheapest plate costing just $3.50 while the largest serving will set you back by just $6.50.
I am a huge fan of Hokkien mee and it's one of my favorite local dishes in Singapore, so I was really excited to try the one from Sheng Seng Fried Prawn Noodle.
When I arrived on a late weekend afternoon, the hawker center was relatively empty and thankfully the stall was open with no queue. I ordered myself a $5.50 plate of noodles and boy, was it huge! Honestly, it was enough to feed two people.
I've eaten a lot of different Hokkien mees but this one was loaded with more ingredients than most of the ones I've had. You could expect prawns, fishcake, pork belly shreds, lard and even squid and every mouthful had a bit of something in it.
The prawn stock the noodles were cooked in was extremely rich as well and the dish's wok hei was on point. Overall, it has become one of my favourite Hokkien mee spots in Singapore!
