Founded in 1967, Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee sells only one dish, which is their famous curry chicken bee hoon mee. The owner of the stall, Ah Heng, eventually passed the secret recipe down to his son and the whole business is run by the family together. Despite selling only one dish, the food here is so popular that the brand has taken over 3 stall units. The shop also has newspaper clippings and awards that are plastered all over the front of the stall, showing how famous it is. They also have a second outlet at 269B Queen Street.

I got myself the S$5 bowl of curry noodles, but it is also available for S$6 and S$7 if you want a larger serving. You can choose to have either bee hoon, yellow noodles or a mix of both, and I decided to have both so I could enjoy two different textures of noodles. The bowl of curry noodles is served to you piping hot and features your chosen noodles doused in a very rich, creamy and spicy curry broth. It is also topped with ingredients like tau pok, sliced fish cake, bean sprouts, potatoes, and of course, their famous poached chicken. The chicken slices were chunky, silky and extremely tender. These truly were the star of the dish and I was so sad when I finished it. Also, while curry noodles come off as a very heavy, cloying dish, the one here at Ah Heng was surprisingly quite all right on the palate and I didn’t feel very stuffy after I polished off the whole bowl, gravy included.
