The owner of Soon Soon Teochew Porridge, Mr Peh Lee Soon sold the business a few years back as he wanted to retire. However, a month into his retirement, he began to miss cooking and serving customers delicious food, so he decided to open a new Teochew porridge business called White House Teochew Porridge at Boon Keng.
However, Soon Soon Teochew Porridge still exists and diners can continue to enjoy traditional Teochew porridge there.
Like any other Teochew Porridge establishment in Singapore, there are a huge array of dishes to choose from and these are displayed behind a giant glass cabinet. Simply point and pick out the ingredients you want and pair it with a piping hot bowl of rice and porridge. If you're eating with a group of people, the dishes will be served too you on individual plates so you can easily share them.

I love myself a hearty Teochew porridge feast — it's so comforting, especially for supper!
I headed to Soon Soon Teochew Porridge one evening for a late night meal with my dining companion and we were very spoilt for choice thanks to all the dishes there were. Even thought we came near closing time and half the dishes weren't there anymore, there was lots to choose from and we eventually settled for pork belly, braised beancurd (or tau kee), otah, sweet and sour fish and a salted egg.
All in all, it's hard to pick a favorite, but I would say that it was the otah. The server gave us a massive slab and it had generous chunks of fish in it. I also loved the tau kee, which had been braised for very long, so every piece of beancurd was soaked. I also recommend pairing the salted egg with porridge and giving it a good stir — tastes like nostalgia!
