One of the occasional rare finds for a pet-friendly cafe, Sun Ray Cafe is the little decent cafe at Serangoon Garden Estate. Though it isn’t a walkable distance from any MRT stations, you may visit the place via buses and taxis instead.

What’s interesting is that this cafe has two main rooms - one of pets with their owners, and the other for humans. They even have a menu for your fur kids, which is definitely a nice indulgence for your little ones. The coffee is brew in-house with their own blends, and food - though nothing exceptionally special - the food is a tasty and affordable. One of the cheaper cafes in Singapore but still serving quality food as well as a great place to chill and work.

While the people behind the cafe seem to be rather young - even their staff they employ, you can see the handwork and passion that they have. Despite not being centrally located, it is a decent local cafe to support.

I visited the cafe slightly before dinner time and ordered just a cup of coffee as well as a slice of cake. I remembered it was the day before Singapore announced its Phase 2 Heightened Alert phase where dining it wasn’t allowed during this period. There wasn’t a crowd and I was seated almost immediately. While I was trying to cope with the sadness through my food and drink, the staff - mostly lads - behind the coffee machine were still making the coffee with a smile. Even when they approached me and saw that my disposition was a little down, they took the effort to start a conversation and even gave me a little motivation. This is the kind of service that will make a customer a frequent one.

Another great thing about Sun Ray Cafe is their affordable food and drinks. It is really a rare sight for a cafe like their establishment to be offering coffees at around the $4 range. My cappuccino was aromatic, strong and a tad acidic. The slice of Oreo cheesecake paired really well with the coffee. The area can be a little noisy, with all the youngsters mingling and talking, but I thought it kind of suit what the cafe stands for - community.
