Issho Izakaya has been in the local food scene for several years - they even survived Covid-19 - and they specialise in Japanese food and drinks. Issho translates to "together", and that's what Issho Izakaya wants to do — create a space for family and friends to come together over a good meal.
They have an extremely extensive menu with pretty much every kind of Japanese food imaginable. There are appetisers like oyster shooters and salmon carpaccio, sashimi platters, sushi, sushi wraps and yakimono. There is even a whole range of kushiyaki (skewered ingredients). Those looking for a more filling meal can get a don or noodle dish.
Drinks-wise, they have alcoholic ones like cocktails, Japanese beers and sake. There are also non-alcoholic options like fizzy drinks and tea.
When I visited the restaurant on a weekend around 2pm, the eatery was pretty empty and I managed to get a seat fast.
The extensive menu left me spoilt for choice but I eventually settled for the Salmon Belly Misoshiru, Kaki Okonomiyaki, Aburi Salmon & Cream Cheese Maki, Ika Maru Yaki and Tenzaru Soba.
The highlight for me was the Kaki Okonomiyaki. I'd say it is an blend between Singapore's oyster omelette and Japan's okonomiaki. The texture was very fluffy and the chunks of oysters were fresh and massive. I'd come back just for this dish!
The salmon belly miso soup was also something I really enjoyed. There were generous slices of salmon in it and overall, it was a really comforting dish. While I loved the seasoning on the Ika Maru Yaki, the squid was a tad bit rubbery. Still, it was palatable and I didn't mind it. Their tempura is also fantastic! I really enjoyed it.
