There are a few Munchi outlets around Singapore, offering traditional chewy pancakes with a twist. Apart from the traditional flavours of the delightful min jiang kueh like peanut, coconut and peanut butter, Munchi is able to come up with a whole range of new flavours such as Biscoff, Cream Cheese, Matcha, Thai Milk Tea, Belgian Chocolate, Black Sesame, etc.
Munchi offers 3 different types of min jiang kueh to choose from – the traditional rectangular sized ones, Munchi pancakes (rounded-flattened form) and mini munchis – a smaller version that allows you to try the portable and delicious snack on the go.
You can tell how tasty the food is by seeing the queue, and Munchi Delights is almost always spotted with a long queue. While there are many people working at the stall here, you would still have to wait about 10-15minutes for the munchi pancakes. Mini munchis weren’t available when I was there, but if you are getting just the traditional ones that are on the shelves, you wouldn’t have to wait long for it.
I have always enjoyed these traditional pancakes, also known as min jiang kueh. I couldn’t believe that I was on the hunt for the best min jiang kueh, and didn’t know about munchi before that. As someone who loves peanut butter as the filling, I was spoilt for choice when munchi offered so much more.
For the skin/dough, there are 2 options – charcoal or normal and of course I went for the charcoal one, because it’s not just IG-worthy, I felt why not try something different. For the flavours, I went for the biscoff, as well as a munchi Belgian chocolate filling.
I absolutely loved the biscoff flavour. Like the peanut butter filling, it is gooey, thick and overflows. There is a crunch from the biscuit, which adds a nice layer to the overall taste. For the Belgian chocolate munchi, I felt the kueh was a bit too thick and the chocolate was definitely rich and sweet. It does ooze out with each bite, but felt a bit too rich for my liking, was not able to finish all.
However, I found myself joning the queues of munchi outlets whenever I spot one to just get 1 min jiang kueh. Probably my favourite min jiang kueh in Singapore right now.
