This family-run eatery was originally from Upper Serangoon Road and then it relocated to Tembeling Road at Joo Chiat in 2017, and earlier this year, they have moved to a shophouse along Yio Chu Kang Road.
Mr Chua, who runs the eatery along with this wife and brothers believe in making their own fishballs, fish dumplings and fish rolls instead of using machine-made ones for their customers. This is also probably the reason why many people around Singapore travel all the way to purchase a satisfying bowl of noodles.
Their menu is rather straightforward, but we’ll recommend getting the dry and spicy option to really taste the beauty of this dish. Customers can choose from 6 different types of noodles including mee pok, mee kia, kway teow, etc. Of course, don’t forget to try the famed fish dumplings, which are sold in limited quantity each day.
Signature
Fishball Noodle (Soup), Fishball Noodle (Dry)
Making fishballs and fish dumplings by hand is a whole lot of effort and that is why many hawker and restaurants resort to using machine-made ones instead. But for a customer, having tried Song Kee’s dish made me realised how important and different a handmade fishball could do. Not only the size of the fishball was bigger, it is so much tastier, full of springy texture and definitely packs a fullness to this important ingredient - and this can only be achieved by hand.
Portion-wise, it was really little compared to what you would have expected at other shops with the same amount paid. However, we are not complaining since it isn’t viable with the effort of the ingredients in each bowl.
When it comes to the noodles, it was chewy and evenly coated with the sauce and chilli, but the highlight had to be the various fishballs and fish dumplings, which was really one of the best I’d tried.
