Coco Ichibanya was established in 1978 and is known as the king of Japanese curry, and for a good reason too.

They have over 1,400 curry branches globally, including in Singapore, and are known for their hearty, comforting plates of Japanese-style curry rice.

While the term "curry" makes their food sound very intimidating, fret not as you can actually chose your spiciness level — there is even no spice for people who can't take chili!

Apart from that, you can also customise your dish by selecting your toppings.

Signature

Chicken Cutlet Curry, Pork Cutlet Curry, Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry, Scrambled - Egg Curry

I was pleasantly surprised to find a Coco Ichibanya in a Singapore food court! These are usually found in the form of restaurants, so I decided to try it out.

I was there on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm so there was no queue. While I was spoilt for choice by the extensive menu, I decided to stick to the classics and ordered a pork cutlet curry.

I will be honest and say I wasn't expecting much because it was in a food court setting but boy was I wrong! The curry — I chose normal spiciness — was so rich and creamy with a very manageable hint of spice. This coated the crispy breaded cutlet beautifully. The pork was also tender with a good amount of bite. I can't believe this was found in a hawker centre setting — very worth it!
