Sukiya is a Japanese restaurant chain specialising in gyūdon (beef bowl). It is the largest gyūdon chain in Japan and has over 2,000 stores in Japan alone, as well as branch stores across Asia.

The first Sukiya opened in 1982 in Yokohama and was founded by Kentarō Ogawa, who originally worked at another gyūdon chain called Yoshinoya. Ogawa also founded Zensho Holdings, which owns Sukiya.

After great success in Japan, Sukiya expanded to Thailand in 2011, Mexico in 2013, Taiwan in 2013 and Vietnam in 2016. A few years later, it opened its first store in Singapore.

Their gyudon come in small, medium and large sizes so diners can choose the size that best fits them.

Apart from gyudon, they now sell other rice bowls like curry rice, yakiniku and mapo tofu bowls.

I was so excited when Sukiya came to Singapore! I ate their beef bowls often whenever I visited Japan and craved it whenever I left.

The outlet in Singapore has an extremely extensive menu that always leaves me spoilt for choice. Apart from the regular gyudon, they have many other options.

This time around, I got the combination bowl that had yakiniku chicken and beef, as well as the teriyaki salmon bowl with beef.

I was really impressed with the teriyaki salmon bowl! It was my first time trying it and I was shocked by how the salmon melted away in my mouth. So fatty and good!

The combination bowl is good for indecisive people who can't choose what protein they want. It is also very filling!
