The business was started by Liew Chuk Kee in 2020 and aspects of his food were inspired by his local roots as well as the soup his Vietnam-born Singaporean wife makes.

Before opening his business, over a year of meticulous research and development went into concocting the perfect recipes.

His soup is at the centre of all his dishes and it's made from various cuts of pork that have been boiled for two to three hours.

Diners can choose from fixed menu options like Monan Pork Soup, Pork Organ Soup, Pork Leg Soup and Pork Shabu Shabu. You can also DIY your own soup with the variety of ingredients.

Carb-wise, there is rice, thick bee hoon and kway teow to choose from.

I've been intrigued by Monan for a pretty long time and I finally got the opportunity to try it when I visited Chinatown Complex Market.

I adore pork soup so the menu was right up my alley. You bet that I was left spoilt for choice!

I decided to get the pork rib soup and add shabu shabu for more bite in my dish. Despite this, everything added up to less than $10 which is quite a steal in my opinion as the bowl was loaded to the brim!

The soup is on the clear side but don't be fooled — it was pretty packed with flavour! The ribs were also meaty with a good amount of fat. I was really glad that I added the shabu shabu as well because it was really good.

I had my meal with rice but in hindsight, I may have preferred kway teow! But nonetheless, it was still a very goodm, hearty meal.
