Established in May 2019, 51 Minced Meat Noodle, which is located at the modern Yishun Park Hawker Centre, has been selling bowls of fusion minced meat noodles. These combine the classic minced meat noodles that Singaporeans all love with twists such as the addition of onsen eggs and Japanese-style chashu.

The business was started by two friends, Darren and Henry, who actually own two separate stalls at Yishun Park Hawker Centre. Darren was the owner of Seafood Pirates while Henry was the owner of Ipoh Curry Noodles and the two men made friends while working in the hawker centre. Eventually, they decided that they wanted to collaborate to create something more local, so 51 Minced Meat Noodle was born.

Signature

Braised Pork Noodles, Signature Noodles

I’m very intrigued by fusion foods so you bet I was curious about the food at 51 Minced Meat Noodle. Minced meat noodles are a staple for me and I eat the dish very often, so you could say that my standard for it is quite high. I got myself a bowl of their Signature Noodles which comes laden with ingredients like Japanese-style chashu, an onsen egg, pigs liver, fishballs and vegetables.

The noodles came dry and coated in a thick gravy, so it felt a little similar to mazesoba. Popping the onsen egg into the noodles also added a creamy consistency to the dish. The pork chashu was also tender and melt-in-your-mouth. Fusion foods are either a hit or miss but I think this rendition fared quite well!
