It’s rare to find pizza, let alone thin-crust pizza, in a hawker setting. But western-fusion stall ButterNut sells just that as well as a myriad of other interesting fusion dishes.
It was founded and is helmed by Darren and Vivian and using Darren’s prior 2 years of experience in the local F&B scene, the pair have come up with a pretty extensive menu featuring unique dishes. These are usually tweaked and rotated as the couple come up with new and exciting dishes.
Another great thing about ButterNut is that everything, from their pizza dough to their sauces, is prepared from scratch, which is rare to find these days where everything is usually frozen or pre-made.
Signature
I was very excited to try the food here at ButterNut and I was not disappointed! My first order of business was to try their much-raved ButterNut Chicken Pizza, which essentially is a thin-crusted pizza that’s generously garnished with chicken, cheese and butternut squash. As advertised, the crust was really very thin and crispy, which allowed the flavours of the ingredients to be more prominent. I found this very homely and addictive so I can see why it's their most popular menu item!
I also tried their Salmon Alfredo Baked Spaghetti which is a cheese lover’s idea of paradise! While it did satisfy my pasta cravings and I would definitely eat it again, it did get a bit cloying after a while so I suggest sharing this with a friend.
Mushroom lovers should also get their Holland Portobello mushrooms which features plump, juicy portobello mushrooms that is baked with cheese — chef’s kiss!
Also, as a sweet potato fan, I really enjoyed their Sweet Potato Fries w Cinnamon Mix. The cinnamon flavours could be a tad bit more prominent but the texture of the fries was on point.
This is definitely one of my new western hawker favourite stalls and I will be back!
