Founded in 1960, this shop specializes in Teochew-style Mee Pok and used to be located at the Golden Shoe Food Centre; however, due to its closure in 2017, it has since moved to its current location, the Interim Hawker Centre. A second-generation owner, Mr. Heng who currently runs the shop had a claypot rice shop on his own for over 20 years at the Golden Shoe Food Centre but decided to close it down as it became a struggle to operate it. Then, he learned the ropes to make Mee Pok when he found out that the previous owner was retiring. Since having inherited the stall, bowls of his authentic Teochew Mee Pok have satisfied the stomach of business people in the CDB area anytime from early morning to lunchtime. Do visit and try a bowl of this Mee Pok while it is still in the Interim Hawker Centre temporarily before its relocation in 2021!

A very simple but extremely satisfying dish! Even the regular amount of chilli is pretty spicy so I recommend asking for less chilli if you can’t handle spice too well. The soups and noodles are all topped with coriander, which spring onions are generally used, so do be cautious of this if you don't like it! At lunchtime (from 11am onwards) the small dishes are from $4 each, but for breakfast, the shop offers mini sized bowls from $3 which is perfect for when you’re feeling peckish but not too hungry. The prawns are boiled to the most suitable degree, and come peeled so we found it easier to eat. Uncle Heng, the owner, was very nice and open and taught us about his Mee Pok. The ingredients are simple, consisting of just chilli flakes, vinegar, soy sauce and sesame oil. The fried garlic and lard are fried in house from 4am every morning, so they are served freshly crunchy and crisp! The noodles have a generous helping of toppings considering its $4 price tag too! I suggest you enjoy it with mixing the chilli flakes in with the noodles. According to Uncle Heng, the pepper can be on the stronger side (which varies depending on staff) but I personally think that’s a unquely cute feature of the place ^-^! If you're ever in the CBD area, I’d definitely recommend you to try Uncle Heng’s Mee Pok!
