Uncle Penyet has been in the local food scene since 2005 and they specialise in, as they call it, Indonesian fusion food. Their menu consists of a myriad of Indonesian classics such as Nasi Ayam Penyet, Nasi Atam Panggang and Nasi Kari Ayam, with evidently, their most popular item being their Nasi Ayam Penyet. For the uninitiated, ayam penyet translates to smashed fried chicken, which is exactly what they do here — they smash the fried chicken! As testament to how good their food is, their fare has been featured in various popular media platforms such as Foodking, Eatbook and Sethlui. With over 10 outlets islandwide, their food is easily accessible for all. They are also Halal certified so our Muslim friends can enjoy their food as well!
I knew it was a must for me to try their popular ayam penyet, so that was just what ordered. I also got mine with side of their meatball soup.
The Ayam Penyet was fried and cooked on the spot and I even managed to witness them smash the chicken for me with a small hammer! When I finally settled down to eat, I was pleased to fine that the fried chicken had an extremely addictive and crisp skin and despite that, the chicken flesh remained moist and tender! It was also easy to tear apart the meat with my fork and knife. Do be warned, the chili sauces here pack a punch, so if you have a low spice tolerance like me, don’t take too much chili at once or suffer like I did! The beef ball soup also added a comforting touch to the meal and was very hearty.
