Established in 2013, Yummy Nyonya Peranakan is a family-run business that specialises in authentic Peranakan fare.
These are served cai fan (mixed rice) style, so you get to mix and match the available dishes with rice to create your own meal — it's a very good idea for people who enjoy eating a little bit of everything!
The stall was first located at Golden Shoe Hawker Centre and during the hawker centres renovations, it was moved to the temporary Market Interim at Telok Ayer. However, 5 April 2022, the hawker centre has been revamped at they have moved back to the newly-renovated Market Street Hawker Centre which is located on the second and third floors of CapitaSpring, a 51-storey integrated building at Raffles Place.
Here, you can find iconic and nostalgic Peranakan dishes like chap chye, beef rendang and ayam buah keluak.
As a Peranakan myself, I am always on the look out for authentic Peranakan food and I feel like Yummy Nyonya Peranakan has done an excellent job of executing that.
I'll admit, with the extensive array of dishes on display, I was quite spoilt for choice. However, I eventually settled for the curry chicken, sotong, spicy fish and vegetables. The portion size was extremely huge and filling, which is great for the hungry office crowd in the Central Business District (CBD) area.
While all the dishes were delicious, I especially loved the sotong. I usually am a little cautious when I order such seafood dishes as there is the chance it will have a strong, fishy smell. However, the sotong here was perfectly cooked and extremely tender. The fish was also excellent and very tender.
All in all, it was a very satisfying meal and if I worked in the CBD area, this would definitely be one of my go-to meals!
