Hakka Fun Hamcha & Yong Tou Fu at Chinatown Complex, which was established in July 2018, is run by husband-and-wife duo Michelle Yee and Alan Kok.

The food at the stall was inspired by the food they grew up with and use recipes that are passed on down from their mothers.

The tea used in their thunder tea rice is made with Chinese celery, Chinese green tea, sawtooth coriander, fresh coriander, mugwort, Thai basil, mint, sesame seeds and roasted peanuts. To enjoy it, pour the tea onto the rice, which is usually served with an assortment of vegetables. You can also sip the tea as it is.

Apart from thunder tea rice, they also serve an assortment of fried yong tau foo.

Thunder tea rice is one of those dishes that you either love or hate and over the years, I've grown to enjoy its grassy, herbaceous notes.

I ordered one set of thunder tea rice and a bowl of fried yong tau foo. The tea here is well-prepared and extremely concentrated. I love how the peanut bits add a nutty crunchy to the dish and adds an earthy touch to the otherwise grassy dish.

As I am not one who gravitates towards vegetables, I found myself enjoying the fried yong tau foo more -- it was so good! But either way, this was one of the better thunder tea rices I've had.
