Firstly, Our Tampines Hub is a place that has almost everything and anything you’ll need. Their food court has an array of food selection and one of them is the Lor Mee, also known as ‘lu mian’, a noodle dish of Hokkien origins.

Lor Mee is quite the quintessential dish for Singaporeans and locals alike. It is a starchy and gravy-like consistency as compared to soupy noodle dishes. Usually a tinge of sourness (due to the vinegar) aftertaste and definitely goes very well with garlic.

Jue Shi Lor Mee at Our Tampines Hub is a little different – offering a varied side dishes or add-ons to the otherwise standard dish. Whether is it adding on a slab of chicken cutlet, yam roll or cod fish, the base of how it taste remains the same.

The stallowners are rather friendly and perhaps it is because there aren’t many people queuing up for this stall like its competitors. So they do chat up with you to get to know their customers better. It is no wonder because starchy noodles makes one full really easily, so I do expect lesser people at the stall, so lesser waiting time if you are hungry. This is not to say that the prices are exorbitant. While it is a little more pricey that most stalls you’d find at hawker centers, I do think their price point is justified.

I ordered the classic Lor Mee, which came with thick yellow noodles, with hard-boiled eggs, fish cake, ngor hiang, all mixed in a thick gravy with a heavy use of black vinegar. Of course, minced garlic and chilli paste can never go wrong when one gets a bowl of lor mee.

Jue Shi Lor Mee is a decent stall, nothing out of the ordinary, and delivers the base of what a bowl of lor mee should taste like. But I would go as far to say that this is better than an average meal, with a very decent portion more than enough for 1 person. Taste wise, it hits the right spot, though the vinegar does it a bit harder than the rest. The gravy has a rich depth of flavour, a strong braised saltiness and it which also coats the yellow noodles well.

If you love some spice to your meal, definitely add the chilli, but beware – it’s spicy!
