Not at all new to the scene, there are 3 stalls around Singapore – one at Boon Lay, Bedok North and this stall at Golden Mile. It is started by duo Joe Cheong and Donovan Wong, whose Chinese names are Wen Li and Jun Wen – which explains why ‘Wen Li’ as the shop name.
There are usually 2 people who work at the stall, with long crowds spotted during weekdays. There are essentially only 2 kinds of main meals on the menu – Lu Ruo Fan (Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice) and Pig Intenstine Mee Sua. There are options for Set menu ($6.90), which includes their homemade popcorn chicken and braised egg for braised pork rice). If you opt for just the solo options, then at an affordable price at $3.50, a delicious bowl of rice or mee sua (thin vermicelli) is good and tasty enough to fill the tummy.
The stall owners are relatively younger compared to other stall owners at the hawker centre, and they very friendly to their customers, asking politely for orders, apologizing for the long wait and ensuring they get their meals accurate to what they’ve ordered. Expect a long wait but it’s worth it.

Homemade Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken
I didn’t expect myself to love Wen Li as much as I did. Despite waiting for a close 20 minutes for my turn, I absolutely love the taste and price tag of this meal. I ordered Set B (Pig Intestine Mee Sua and a bowl of Homemade Popcorn Chicken).
Firstly, portion wise, it’s great – much more than what you’ll have at Shi Ling franchise snack stalls in malls. Taste wise, the vermicelli is well-cooked, soft and sticks together with the thick gravy-like sauce. It has a sour and salty taste, and a smooth texture that can be gulped down easily, but it does get a bit too rich towards the end. The intestines were chewy, but rather thinly sliced as compared to those you’d find at kway chap stalls.
The popcorn chicken was actually the rare find – crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Warm and lightly-coated with a sweet flavourful powder. Will go back to try their braised pork the next time I’m there.
