At Geylang Bahru Food Centre to eat at Cheok Kee? The stall isn't hard to find — just look for the one with one of the longest queues.

Founded in 1991, the popular stall has dished out in braised duck dishes for decades. The original stall was at MacPherson before they moved to Geylang Bahru.

In 2023, they won the recognition they deserve and got the Michelin Bib Gourmand title.

They have several braised duck dishes to choose from here. Apart from the classic Braised Duck Rice that goes for just $3.50, they also have Duck Drumstick Rice ($5) and Braised Duck Porridge ($3.50). Want a whole braised duck? It'll set you back by $36.

If you're coming down, try to do so during off peak periods as the queues can get painfully long.

I arrived around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon and thought that I missed the lunch crowd but boy was I wrong.

There was a snaking long queue right outside Cheok Kee that meandered its way between tables and past other stalls. It was a solid 15 minute wait just to order my food but thankfully I got it in the end. I got the duck rice, which costs $3.50, and topped up $1.50 for extra meat.

The duck came separately from the rice and soup and was doused in a sweet and savoury gravy. The duck itself was rather lean and the fattier parts were juicier. I also really liked the rice. I initially thought that it was yam rice, which I am not a fan of, but later realised that it was coated in braising sauce. My only gripe was the soup. It had a nice herbal taste but was quite oily. Would have been perfect if it were not oily!
