Located at the bustling Geylang Bahru Market and Food Centre is Bang Bang Mushroom Bak Chor Mee, which is run by a friendly elderly husband-and-wife duo. They work seamlessly together and the husband does the cooking in the kitchen while the wife serves the food and tends to the customers. They’ve been hawking their wares for over 24 years so they are very familiar with the local food scene. Their menu is simple yet substantial and has classic items such as minced meat noodles, fishball minced meat noodle and even pig’s trotter minced meat noodle.
I arrived at around 4pm on a weekend afternoon and there thankfully was no queue. Had a nice chat with the ladyboss while ordering my food. I got myself a bowl of their Minced Meat Abalone Noodles which just cost $4.50 for a regular portion. You can also pay $5 for a slightly bigger portion. You can choose between mee kia and mee pok noodles and I chose the latter. The portion size was pretty generous for the price point and the noodles were cooked to a nice al dente texture. The abalone slices here aren’t real but I did enjoy the texture and felt like it added a good bite to the overall dish. There were also other ingredients such as minced meat, mushrooms, dumplings and fishcake.
