Zhen Jie Traditional Dessert was established in around 2013 and is run by a husband-and-wife duo. They prepare most of the desserts from scratch together. The dessert stall specializes in a range of traditional desserts —37, to be exact!— such as ice kachang, mango pudding and black gluntinous ice cream. There are also hot and cold desserts so just choose something that fits your preference or the weather! We suggest something refreshing and cold since Singapore’s weather is so hot all the time.
For traditional desserts, I usually tend to go for something cold Since Singapore is always so hot, but this time around, I gravitated to something different such as the Black Sesame Peanut Paste dessert ($2). This is served warm and is what it is — black sesame and peanut paste that are combined together in a bowl. It looks a little bit like a ying and yang symbol to me! The flavours are very nostalgic and I thoroughly enjoyed the strong, nutty flavours of the dessert. If you enjoy tang yuan, this may be up your alley as I feel like it’s a deconstructed tang yuan minus the gelatinous part!
