Xiang Ji Porridge is a family-run business with siblings now mending the stall at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4. Operated by Mr Lee, Xiang Ji have won the hearts of the residents there and those looking for a nice warm bowl or porridge, who flock to the food centre, especially during the lunch and dinner hours.

There are a variety of types of porridges that you can choose from, from simple egg to minced meat and even the all-time favourite, century egg porridge! What’s more to ask when the price of these bowls of goodies are selling at very affordable prices and enough to fill your hungry tummies. There are also add-ons if you are just looking for some extra ingredients to go with your porridge.

Located in the hawker centre, it can get pretty crowded and sometimes even with pigeons flying around, a sight that is rather common sight in most hawker centres in Singapore. However with the large sitting area, it should take you too long to find a space and get queueing for Xiang Ji Porridge.

I went there for lunch and didn’t have to wait long before I got my bowl of porridge. I got the Century Egg and Pork Porridge and because most of the ingredients are prepared and cooked before, so it’s really just scooping into a bowl.

The porridge is more of a thick congee and has a smooth texture. Don’t underestimate the small bowl because it is more than enough for one person. It may seem plain, but with the ingredients like century egg, it gives a nice added flavour and texture. Congee has been a hearty breakfast for many older folks because of how easy to swallow and filling it can be, and sometimes having it for lunch or even dinner is a better option.
