Muslim-owned Rayyan's Waroeng Upnormal has been at the bustling Amoy Street Food Centre since 2014 and what makes them stand out from the other stalls at the hawker centre is their fusion food — Japanese and Balinese fusion, to be exact.

Some unique offerings include the Balinese Gyudon Eggbowl and Kuta Oyakodon. But of course, if you want to opt for something more traditional, they have the usual, familiar Indonesian offerings like Ayam Penyet.

Do note that they only open on Mondays to Thursdays for breakfast and lunch, so catch them while you can!

I love both Japanese and Indonesian cuisine so I was looking forward to this! I visited a little after 2pm on a weekday so there wasn't much crowd. The menu options left me spoilt for choice but I decided to get their ayam penyet.

I was pleasantly surprised by how large the serving size was! The dish came with a mound of rice and a massive fried chicken that was cut up for easy consumption. The chicken was perfectly crisp and not too oily. Coat it in the accompanying sambal sauce for some added heat. Will be back to try their other offerings!
