The humble business at Amoy Street Food Centre was opened by Paul and Yu Jie in 2019.

The couple graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 2015 and started out in the F&B industry making burgers from scratch.

Eventually, they decided to make steak bowls for the CBD crowd.

Here, you can expect premium cuts such as ribeye, tenderloin and flank. Don't like beef? They have unagi and salmon too.

The food here is customisable so customers first pick the protein of their choice, a base of rice, soba and salad, and then their sauce, with options such as original, black pepper and mentaiko.

You can also opt to add on more rice and soba, or other things like an onsen egg and seasonal vegetables.

When I visited the stall on a weekday a little after lunchtime, there were still a few customers, but I managed to get my food pretty fast.

They were already sold out of a lot of things when I reached. I really wanted to try the ribeye but that wasn't available, and neither was rice, so I settled for the unagi paired with soba and the gyu (beef slices), also paired with soba.

I was pleasantly surprised by the generous cut of unagi they gave me and the dish came with a side of potatoes, edamame, cherry tomatoes and sous vide egg. The unagi went well with the soba and all-in-all, it was a refreshing bowl.

It was also my first time pairing gyu with soba and while it was a little weird, I quite liked it!
