Being in business since the 1970s, Guo Ya Yin Teochew Kway Chap is situated at Amoy Street Food Centre, probably one of the most famous and busiest food centers during the lunch hour due to the prime location in the CBD area.
Despite the large area and spanning 2 floors, Amoy Food Street Centre feels like there is perpetually no available seats there, because it takes a long time to spot a table. Loads of hoarding or ‘chope-ing’ (reserving) with packets of tissues or umbrellas or work IDs. Therefore, either you go earlier to avoid the rush hour, or you stay on to find your lucky table.
Expect queues to form at this stall, for there aren’t too many kway chap stalls there, so those craving for these offal and intestines, along with hot bowls of thin and wide rice sheets.
Like most kway chap stalls, the plate of ingredients include pig’s intestines, tau pok, tau gua, fish cake, egg and salted vegetables. There are options to add on ingredients for your liking, as well as extra bowls of kuay. at different price ranges. Lastly, don’t forget the chilli on the side for an extra added spice.
I had to wait about 15 minutes in line with about 4 people in front me as I went during the lunch hour. While I do expect the crowd like this, it was honestly one of the less crowded stalls, and I’m glad I did it.
While it doesn’t look all fancy and well put together on the plate on ingredients, I’ll choose taste over plating any day. The bowl of kway (thin wide thin sheets) itself had a really thick and rice broth that isn’t too salty and just the right taste to drink it as soup with the kway. For the ingredients, I love the variety that I don’t get often such as the salted vegetables and pig skin. It’s all cleaned nicely, with no smell or weird sour aftertaste.
With the many years in the industry, along with the many clippings plastered around the stall, it’s safe to say it’s a stall to check out when you are there.
