There are quite a number of ‘Granny Pancakes’ stalls around Singapore and there is a reason for this franchise expansion. For starters, this chained brand has a few outlets, selling these little gems of pancakes, also known as min jiang kueh to the locals. Essentially, it’s a vegetarian, halal savoury snack that has a thick layer of chewy dough, sandwiching a filling of your choice. Standard options include peanuts, red bean and coconut. These days, there are peanut butter and even chocolate filling options to suit a wider variety of customers.

The pancakes are constantly being made, so you can ensure a fresh and sometimes pipping hot pancakes! At an affordable price, many people flock to these pancake stalls like Granny’s pancakes for a midday snack, breakfast or just a perfect bite to end your day.

The outlet at Tekka Centre is manned by a lady, who spreads a rather generous amount of filling for her customers. There may be many different kinds of mee jiang kueh stalls in Singapore, but Granny’s Pancakes deserve one of the top title. What makes Granny Pancakes stand out is the flour, and the peanuts. The crunchiness of the peanuts, along with the thick and sweet peanut butter spread makes it more sinful. Sinful but good, especially when it’s served hot.

The peanuts don’t ‘fall out’ like some other stalls, perhaps with the peanut butter filling, but even for the sugar sprinkled together, it didn’t feel too sweet. It’s safe to say every bite was really satisfying. Even the thick flour/dough-y parts, I loved the chewiness and softness of it.
