Since 1971, Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak has been well-loved for its simple yet iconic plates of nasi lemak, winning it plenty of awards and praise. They are easy to spot and you can locate them at a corner stall of Boon Lay Place Market & Food Village. Everything is prepared fresh daily inhouse at their central kitchen and despite the neverending stream of people, the food is replenished fast so that everyone can enjoy their food. They also take pride in their use of high-quality coconut oil, which explains why their food tastes so good. Fun fact: the nasi lemak here is so good that it’s even being dispensed out vending machines that can be found at places like International Plaza and Heartbeat Bedok.
I ordered their classic Chicken Nasi Lemak set ($3.50) which comes with rice, a fried egg. Fried chicken, ikan bilis & peanuts, sliced cucumbers and a dollop of sambal. The rice was incredibly aromatic and had a strong coconut oil fragrance; you can tell that it had been freshly prepared. I love it’s fluffy, light texture that was not too heavy on the palate. The fried chicken was done up well with a crisp outer layer and a tender, meaty inside. Pair everything with the sambal, which was pungent, decently spicy and subtly sweet. One of the better nasi lemak chillies I’ve had in Singapore. For $3.50 you really get a very generous portion so it’s really very worth it and affordable! I can see why people would willingly queue for this.
