The bustling hawker centre is filled with loads of people who come to get their hands on their favourite hawker dish. At Mei Ji Fishball noodles, it’s easy to spot a queue, and expect about at least 5 people in the queue during peak lunch hours.
While I wouldn’t say the hawker is the most clean hawker centre around, it serves it purpose and a number of stalls offering good food for people around the vicinity. The stall owners are rather friendly, but don’t expect them to be overly friendly chatting up with their customers. However, I did see them talking to their regular customers, which was nice to see and witness.
For fishball noodles, there are options to choose dry or soup - spicy or non-spicy and the type of noodles. For the common requests are mee pok - flat egg noodles dry.
The fishball noodles that Mei Ji Fishball are selling are a classic, served with a generous helping of the noodles - usually the thin mee kia, mee pok or yellow noodles egg noodles. The noodles - fry options are tossed in a fragrant mix of soy sauce, garlic, and a dash of chili for a gentle kick.
The fishball served were really fresh, had a chewy and bouncy texture, which gives a nice touch to each bite. There’s also a slight salty flavour to it, making it a perfectly textured dish that isn’t too overpowering. If you order dry noodles, they also usually serve a bowl of soup on the side that complements the noodles.
It’s a good balance of flavours, not overly salty and with the chilli and sauce, the freshness of the noodles, it’s a bowl that warms the tastebuds and the heart.
