Char Kway Teow is one of the Singaporean dishes that the locals take a lot of pride in. When done right, it can be the best comfort food, but it takes skills and experience to perfect this and satisfy the tough critics. This stall specialises in Char Kway Teow, selling only this dish to cater to the morning and afternoon crowd.
The stall has been around for many years and is loved by people from all walks of life, which are apparent in the various award stickers plastered on the stall front. Each plate is made to order, but if you are good with spice, order the plate of spicy char kway teow.
I read the reviews before heading to this shop and went there with expectations of this favourite dish. I went around past the lunch hour, so I didn’t have to wait long for it. My plate of char kway teow came with beansprouts, cockles and a generous portion for one. I ordered the spicy option and will definitely recommend that.
The char kway teow had a good wok-hey (charred) taste to it, as well as the aroma that fills the stall. I enjoyed the chewiness of the kway teow and the cockles that comes along with it. It was a little sweet, and not too overwhelming to the palate, but I had a few unwelcome egg shells in it.
