This stall at Alexandra Village Food Centre is one of the many popular stalls at this considerably large food area, serving taste fried hor fun with different options of ingredients such as beef slices, fish or mixed hor fun.
The stall has been around for about 6 years now, opened by Mr Leo who worked at a zi char stall before this. He started his culinary journey as a teenager, taught by this father. Usually packed with a queue of people waiting for their plate of Hor Fun, each plate is made-to-order. The stall owners are rather friendly with their customers, often seen chatting with them and giving them recommendations on what to eat or how to cook it.
Apart from its generous portion and ingredients, this stall is known for its charred ‘wok hei’ taste and chewy rice noodles. There are also other food options like Mui Fan, and Har Cheong Gai.
Signature
I was a little startled when I received my plate of Hor Fun as it looked too much for one person. While I definitely loved that there were loads of chunky beef slices, I also enjoyed the thick gravy. Most of the Hor Fun comes with thick gravy but this one still had a silky and sweet-salty taste. The beef slices were tender and chewy, goes really well with the rice noodles and gravy.
But what makes this plate a winner is the smokey-charred taste, an effort not easy to master. It requires a skilful chef who knows how to control the fire of the large wok and its tossing technique. For that reason, it’s worth a shot if you are around that area.
