Not many eateries can say that they’ve been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand title five years in a row and Na Na Curry’s Bukit Merah outlet specifically is one of the lucky few places!
The brand was established in 1989 by Yap Hock Kee, the oldest son of Grandma Khim’s children. As he loved his grandma’s curry, which was a common affair in the family, he thought that it would be a brilliant idea to start a stall selling it to allow everyone to try her delicious concoction. So, they opened their first outlet at Marina South and soon, it became a huge hit with people who love curry.
Unfortunately, it was hard for them to keep up with the high rental prices so they eventually shuttered their first outlet and relocated. In 1996, NTUC Fairprice opened a chain of franchised stalls with the popular Na Na Curry which lasted 3 years and this helped to make it even more recognised. And today, Na Na Curry has multiple outlets scattered across Singapore in places like Jurong East, Commonwealth, and Bedok.
If you love very spicy curries that leave you with a running nose, this is the place to get some. Despite having a very low tolerance for spice, I found myself polishing off my entire bowl of curry despite my mouth being in so much pain! Worth it? I think so.
While I normally gravitate towards chicken curry, I was curious about their pork rib curry, something that I’ve never tried before. And I completely don’t regret ordering this because it was so good! While the curry, as I mentioned earlier, was painfully spicy, it was strangely addictive thanks to the intense blend of spices that it was made with. The pork ribs were also fall-off-the-bone tender and insanely meaty. I enjoy pairing my curry with rice but you can also do so with bread.
