This local stall may not have gained a lot media coverage, nor does the stall have newspaper clippings or photographs of celebrities around the shop, even the lighted shopfront doesn’t look modern, but this stall is definitely an underrated gem.
While it doesn’t have a long queue, the customers come in quite regularly, with some even buying in large orders.
There are various options from Sun Cookies (Tai Yang Bing) to puff pastries, mooncakes and cakes, there is something for those looking to munch for their snack or an after-meal dessert. All baked fresh daily and recommended to not keep for more than a few days, this bakery even takes on interesting flavours like durian, green tea and yam lotus paste.
I bought the Char Siew puff pastry and the Yam louts paste, which seem like heavy snacks right after lunch, but I was craving something sweet, so a bite into the warm yam lotus paste mooncake sounded about right. It’s like a mini mooncake for 1 person, which has a very thick layer of lotus paste and a crispy-like flaky exterior that folds which each bite, without breaking to thousand pieces. A thick layer of the yam lotus paste that makes it all the more worth it.
The Char Siew puff, on the other hand didn’t have much of the char siew stuffed in the puff. Though sweet and chewy, I felt it was nice, but nothing too fantastic about it. The flaky exterior wasn’t too thick and was still crispy even after having it a few hours later.
With a track record of the few food items that I’ve chosen from this bakery, it’s probably worth to try their other selections like the cakes the next time around.
