Located at Bukit Merah, ABC Brickworks is a hawker centre that sees a lot of local residents flocking to the large hawker centre for a variety of food options. It's a place where people come for the simple pleasure of good food and drinks.
For Swee Kee Wanton Noodles, it's considered a staple dish with a fair share of fans who love this Cantonese dish, most likely from roots in Hong Kong.
The staff at Swee Kee are often seen working long hours, serving up plates of noodles with practiced hands. They have a certain no-nonsense vibe, but you can tell they take pride in what they do. The uncle who runs the stall usually has a few words with regular customers, but nothing more than that, especially if you are a first-timer to their stall. Don't expect world-class service, but safe to say it's better that they are focused with your food.
For wanton noodles, there are soup or dry options to choose from, as well as your spicy level. Do remember let the uncle know your style beforehand.
For the experienced, I'd say always go for the dry noodles option so that you get the best soup broth, as well as a nice coat of sauce with your noodles.
For Swee Kee, the noodles are cooked nicely, with a slight chewiness that holds up well to the sauce. It’s dressed in a light, flavorful soy-based sauce that gives it a savory depth, without being overwhelming. A good serving of chilli paste on the side adds a nice kick, or a spoonful of cut green chilli.
The wantons are plump, juicy, and filled with a well-seasoned pork and shrimp mixture. The char siu (roast pork) here is often a hit—it’s tender, slightly sweet that balances well with the noodles and wantons.
Not quite the soup experience but if you're after that dry, stir-fried style, Swee Kee nails it.
