Tucked away in ABC Brickworks Hawker Centre is Leng Kee Fish Soup, a family-run business that has been around since 1997. Those who live near Bukit Timah may find this stall familiar, and it’s because it is the same Leng Kee Fish Soup that is located in Bukit Timah Hawker Centre. No, they have not moved — this is just their second outlet, so fret not!
The current owner of the stall, Mr Wan, took over the businesses from his father at the tender age of 20 and has been running it ever since. The stall specialises in a variety of fish and seafood dishes such as Fish Head Soup, Fish Porridge and Seafood Soup.
I grew up eating the fish soup from their Bukit Timah Hawker Centre outlet and it has remained one of my favourite fish soups in Singapore. I’m glad to say that the food here is equally good and the standard is the same!
The soup, while light and clean, has a nice sweet and savoury touch thanks to the essence of the fish. I also really love the texture of the fish here which is springy and firm, unlike many other places where the fish is usually flaky. The fish is also very fresh and does not have a distasteful overly fishy smell. Portion sizes here are also very generous despite the cheap price point, making it an affordable meal option!
