Located at ABC Brickworks, this is probably one of the fewer stalls there that serves up congee - a thick kind of Cantonese porridge that is thick and usually filled with other ingredients like pork, century egg, salted egg, etc.
Like most congee stalls, it is relatively cheaper (mostly rice), and a wide variety to choose from. From the all-time favourite century egg, braised nuts and pork, to fancy ones like abalone slices, this stall serves these gems one after another. Recommended to get the fried dough fritters - a must-have when you eat congee as well. Because of the variety of dishes, you can have add-ons or even customize to your taste.
The stall owner lady was rather friendly and a bit pushy on my order, despite not having a crowd behind me. However, she is definitely very experienced with her work station, knowing exactly how much to serve for each bowl. Because most, if not all of the items are pre-cooked, there is little waiting time for congee.
A hearty and affordable meal, what's not to like? Congee may seem like a breakfast kind of meal, but it's great for anyone who wants to warm the tummy, or a brunch kind of option. For some, congee is when you feel peckish but don't want to get too hungry thereafter.
Century egg porridge is what I like when it comes to ingredients on my bowl of congee and I was so happy because she was so generous with the amount of century egg that was given.
The congee was so smooth, thick and it tasty. There is a nice after salty taste to it which adds to that flavour of it. With the dough fritters, it adds texture and taste to it. I felt it was very generous in terms of portion, and so I actually couldn't finish it. Oh yes, congee is always pipping hot for some reason, so be careful not to burn your tongue and lips.
